Jon Young

Parched

This piece focuses on symbolism that can be found in water in the form of a stream. A canteen is where one might keep a reserve of fresh water when going to a place where the water situation is unknown.  A reserve to keep life continuing on.
The installation is minimal. It simply shows a large stream of water flowing vertically through a rusted out cave-like structure down through the “gallery” floor. This stream is alive with luminosity. In this case the stream represents the illuminated continuation of life through a dark and weathered environment.

  1. I love that you used a canteen. I grew up in a camping family and never even imagined using this for an art project. I also enjoy that you hung it by it's own strap.

  2. Your attention to detail and high quality craftsmanship adds to the appeal of this piece for me. Fabricating a hook system and finishing the newly created edge along your opening allow the internal space to take first chair. What did you use to create your seemingly luminescent column?
